Delta Launches Seasonal Services From ILM to Boston

With a seasonal service to Boston, one of the airport’s 14 nonstop destinations, Wilmington International Airport has added another nonstop route to its schedule for 2023.

Seasonal nonstop flights from Wilmington to Boston Logan International Airport will run on weekends from May to September, and tickets are now being sold by Delta Air Lines. It is the second time recently that the carrier has announced extended service at ILM. In November, Delta changed its seasonal flight to a year-round nonstop service to LaGuardia Airport.

An ILM representative said the airport likely perceived good conditions to extend air service from Wilmington. Carriers like Delta examine a range of factors when deciding which routes to service to guarantee they make a wise economic decision.

The official stated, “We believe Delta recognized a business justification to make the route year-round in order to continue this service. We are grateful that Delta offers year-round travel to Atlanta and LaGuardia as well as intermittent summer service to Boston.

With the arrival of two low-cost carriers, Avelo Airlines and Sun Country Airlines, who together offered five new nonstop destinations for travelers from Wilmington, Wilmington International Airport experienced significant growth in 2022.

These developments, together with the use of larger aircraft on routes out of Wilmington by legacy airlines like Delta and American Airlines, have put the airport on track to outperform its record-breaking year in 2019, when it first passed 1 million total passengers, according to airport officials.

Delta will offer nonstop flights to Boston from May 27 until September 3. The flights will run on the weekends, leaving Wilmington at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and Boston at 10 a.m. An ILM representative verified that an Embraer ERJ-175, a narrow-body aircraft with 70 seats, is currently planned for the voyage.

For the first weekend in May, round-trip flights from ILM to Boston started at $432, according to a quick check of ticket prices on Wednesday. These would allow passengers and our customers better routes in Wilmington.
